As per my usual routine, I started the day by chatting with my best friend and partner for our upcoming Nanaimo Wellness Retreat. With only a week left, we still have some small details to finalize, so we're starting to feel the pressure. To keep myself mentally prepared and prioritize self-care, I went on a hike with my family at Stoney Hill, and it was a great decision.
The road leading to the trailhead parking lot was winding and beautiful, but if you're prone to car-sickness like me, you might want to bring some Gravol. When we arrived, the parking lot was full, which was a good sign that the trail was worth it, but I had to experience it for myself. I took a moment to breathe in the fresh air and calm my senses before embarking on the short 3.2km loop.
If you follow the signage from the parking lot, you'll reach stunning views within about 1km. These views are easily accessible and can be seen in bits and pieces along about a third of the trail, each one uniquely stunning. Along the way, we were treated to bright green new growth and lovely flowers all over the place. The fresh green color was so welcoming and peaceful, announcing that Spring is finally here.
As usual, I took some pictures along the way to capture the beauty of the trails and the scenic coastal views of Vancouver Island. Taking a deep breath in and feeling the air enter my lungs, I take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the gratitude I have for being able to live on this island. This is something I like to do near the start of every forest bathing walk: Inhale - express gratitude for Vancouver Island’s abundance - exhale.
The lush forests and the views of the Samsun Narrows are examples of why I choose to live here. I'm always inspired to immerse myself in and photograph the rich forests of Vancouver Island. Every new trail I visit provides something to soothe and calm me, which is what Mother Nature does for me - she provides peace.
I hope that someday, you'll consider joining me on a forest bathing walk or a mindful photo trek through the forests of Nanaimo and Vancouver Island to experience the calm and zen that Mother Nature provides.
And did you know? I donate 1% of all forest bathing revenue to Ecoforestry Institute Society bi-annually to support the preservation and protection of our forests: another reason why you should join me on a mindful forest walk!
