In my endeavour to expand my photography business, I've introduced a new offering: photo walks, with a special focus on mindful photo walks. Given my background in providing both photography products/services and forest therapy, combining the two seemed like a natural fit.
When I venture out to capture photos, I take a mindful approach. Upon arriving at a location, I take a moment to assess my surroundings, considering the direction and intensity of the light. Then, I immerse myself in the scene, taking time to feel connected to it before I even begin taking pictures. This involves slowing down, taking deep breaths, and observing the environment for a few minutes. By centering myself in this way, I've found that I can better concentrate and identify exceptional photo opportunities. Recognizing the potential benefits of this approach, I decided to offer mindful photo walks to beginners, providing them with an accessible way to engage with a scene before capturing it, ultimately leading to more creative and captivating photographs.
My very first mindful photo walk took place on Sunday, July 9th, and I was delighted to have one lovely participant join me. The number of participants didn't matter to me; it was more about making my inaugural walk a focused and enjoyable experience without overwhelming myself with a large group. Overall, the first walk went well, although I did notice areas that could be improved, such as allowing more time for the photography portion. To address this, I plan to add a minimum of 30 extra minutes to future walks, ensuring ample time to apply the shared tips and unleash our creativity.
Once the walks are completed, I follow up with my participant(s) by sending them a document containing the tips and tricks we covered during the walk. I also encourage them to share their feedback and experiences on social media if they wish. Word-of-mouth and social sharing play a significant role in helping my business grow and reaching those who are eager to embark on a mindful photographic journey through the beautiful woodlands of Nanaimo.
My ultimate goal is to help people find inner peace and foster a profound connection with nature through various experiences. If there are other experiences aligned with my vision that you seek, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm eager to support as many individuals as possible in their personal lives and photographic journeys. In the meantime, if you're interested in signing up for an existing mindful photo walk or forest therapy walk, you can find the upcoming dates on my website.
